Ever wondered what an OISC audit involves and how best to prepare? If so, this course is for you! Whether you've got an audit round the corner or simply want to make sure that your case management systems are up to scratch, our course will help ensure that your team are working towards best practice, and that your organisation is audit-ready when the time comes. As well as the ins-and-outs of audit day, we'll be looking at how the OISC Code of Standards applies in practice, some top tips for file management and record-keeping, and how best to deal with complaints. The course is designed to be useful for caseworkers, line managers and anyone else interested in setting up or overseeing an immigration advice service.

This course is intended for staff and volunteers from our partner organisations who wish to register with the Office of the Immigration Services Commissioner to do the limited work permitted at Level 1 in the Asylum and Protection category. It is 1-day course which covers the definition of a refugee, the asylum process, support and welfare and work that can be done at Level 1. The course is held online using a mixture of website materials and online classroom. Participants will need to submit their own application to the OISC.

This course is intended for staff and volunteers from our partner organisations who wish to register with the Office of the Immigration Services Commissioner to become immigration advisors. It is an intensive 5-day course which covers the syllabus for the OISC Level 1 assessment. The course is held online using a mixture of website materials and online classrooms. Participants will not be automatically enrolled in the assessment and will need to submit their own application to the OISC.
The course will run from 9:30 am to 5:00 pm every day.

A 5-day course intended for trainees who wish to register with the OISC in order to advise and assist individuals with asylum claims, fresh claims, family reunion applications and applications for indefinite leave to remain on protection grounds. Trainees do not need to have passed an assessment or be registered with the OISC at Level 1 in the Immigration category before applying for registration at Level 2 in the Asylum and Protection category. However trainees do need to have received training in Immigration at OISC Level 1. The course will not automatically lead to registration with the OISC and trainees will be responsible for submitting their application for registration or their application to raise their levels to the OISC, and for attending and passing assessments.
The course will run from 9:30 am to 5:00 pm every day.

A 5-day course intended for trainees who wish to register with the OISC in order to advise and assist individuals with complex private and family life applications and claims, including those raised within the context of an asylum claim. Trainees need to be registered at Level 1 in the Immigration category or be prepared to apply for registration and pass assessments at Level 1 and 2 simultaneously. The course will not automatically lead to registration with the OISC and trainees will be responsible for submitting their application for registration or their application to raise their levels to the OISC, and for attending and passing assessments.

In this thematic webinar we will discuss the legal instruments and principles that lay out the various ways in which protection claims from children need to be treated differently to those from adults in refugee status determination procedures. This will include the various different considerations and legal interpretations, that decision makers in the should apply when assessing children’s asylum claims, and what this means for UK-based researchers conducting child-focused COI. The workshop involves practical case studies to demonstrate how child specific issues can translate into appropriate research strategies.

All webinars will take place on Zoom. As a participant of any webinar, you will be asked to read the digital training handbook by ARC Foundation and Asylos ahead of the session. As a participant of the child-focused webinar, you will be sent an additional handbook by email after the session.
This course is intended for staff and volunteers from our partner organisations who do not wish to become immigration advisers or register with the Office of the Immigration Services Commissioner.
We are trialling running this course as two half days. The first half day will look at what is and what is not immigration advice, so that you can do as much as possible without crossing that boundary. The second half will tell you how you can support clients to access immigration advice and what you can do when things go wrong. The course will be held online using a mixture of reading materials and online classrooms.
